By setting the theme “Celebrating Her Vision: Girls Transforming the World, ” the Bicentennial steering committee placed the founder at the center of the celebration, as this celebration is in equal parts the anniversary of one woman’s grand and right vision and the recognition of 200 years of excellence in girls’ education.
Emma Hart Willard grounded her school with the conviction that girls should be educated to be of best use to the society in which they live. Two hundred years later, “her” girls are still transforming their world. We think that is worth celebrating.
