P-117 American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
November–March .25 unit Parry
The objective of this course is to teach students the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare students to recognize emergencies, respond quickly and effectively, and prevent drowning and other incidents. It also teaches other skills needed to become a professional lifeguard. In addition, a five-hour module at the end of the course addresses additional rescue skills necessary for lifeguarding at a waterfront facility. Students must be strong swimmers.
Grading System: Credit/No Credit
Prerequisites: 15 years old by the end of the course and strong swimming abilities
Open to: 9/10/11/12

Emma Willard students score on average 150 points higher than the national average for girls on the verbal section of the SAT, and 110 points higher on the math section.
