Seminar

lotting a successful course through life in a rapidly changing world requires skill and flexibility. That is why Emma Willard School balances rigorous academic study with innovative, experiential learning opportunities grounded in the latest research on adolescent development and learning. The Seminar Program, sister to the Stanton Program, mentors young women as they explore, assess, and develop critical life skills. Teachers employ a variety of pedagogical techniques to excite and engage every aspect of a young woman’s intelligence—from verbal to emotional—so that each student learns to marshal her talents and abilities to their fullest.

Each year of the Seminar Program is intentionally designed to foster, in developmentally appropriate ways, life skills that young women will need to succeed not only in high school and college, but throughout their lives. Developing strong communication skills, including careful listening, dialogue techniques, and effective public speaking, is fundamental to all levels of the program. Particular attention is also paid to ethics and community building as well as to health and wellness.
