From Bolivia, Botswana, Croatia, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam as well as from across the United States, the first class of Davis Scholars has arrived at Emma Willard School. Emma Willard has a long tradition of educating diverse of women of merit and a longstanding commitment to building cross-cultural understanding.

Together with Emma Willard School, the Shelby Cullom Davis family has established two programs—one for international students and one for domestic students—to attract highly motivated, potential future leaders. Grants are need-based, and each successful candidate will have her full need met by grants from the Davis family and from Emma Willard School. Students may enroll in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades as well as during the postgraduate year. Upon graduation from Emma Willard, Davis Scholars are eligible for continued scholarship support at any of the 89 Davis United World Scholars colleges and universities in the United States. As the leading educator of young women, Emma Willard School is proud to leverage the value of this remarkable initiative to achieve a demonstrable and sustained impact on the world.

Emma Willard is the most venerable girls’ school in the United States. Located in Troy, New York, the school educates 310 girls in grades 9–12. Emma Willard proudly fosters in each young woman a love of learning, the habits of an intellectual life, and the character, moral strength, and qualities of leadership to serve and shape her world.

Successful candidates for the Davis Scholars Program will be excellent students in their current academic setting, demonstrate leadership and service potential, and possess a strong command of English. The domestic program also seeks to serve those students who would be among the first in their family to attend college. The application deadline is February 1, 2009.
