April 2008

Dear Alumnae,

The students have just returned from spring break and campus is churning back to life. Over the break some students relaxed at home with friends, while others worked with Habitat for Humanity or helped out in a nursery school in Mexico. To see and hear what's happening on campus, visit Emma Now.

Thank you to all who shared your thoughts on the new format with us; the response was overwhelmingly positive. As always, we love to hear feedback and ideas, so don’t hesitate to tell us what you think.

Best,

Molly Price, Director of Alumnae Relations

Events Calendar

In the next few months, Emma Willard heads on the road, and we just might be coming to a city near you to gather with alumnae, parents, and friends.

We’ll be traveling to Florida (both coasts), New York, and Boston in the coming months. The Capital District regional club will join EW students to build a house with Habitat for Humanity in Hudson. Come join us.

Farewell, Jack!

Forty years ago, Emma Willard School welcomed Jack Easterling to its faculty. A Renaissance man through and through, he has shared his wisdom and his wit with generations of Emma Willard alumnae. From sentence construction to art history to foul shots, he has inspired countless “eureka” moments. Despite the loss we will feel upon his retirement this June, we are excited to hear what adventures await him.

Please send your recollections of Mr. Easterling—a note about how he changed your life, or any musing you wish—to alumnae@emmawillard.org. We will present him with your thoughts at Reunion 2008.

Find yourself with downtime in Berlin, Germany? Check out Cynthia Barcomi Friedman ’81’s upscale deli-diner in the Mitte neighborhood, recommended by the New York Times Style Magazine spring travel issue as a place that “lures the art-world elite, especially for Sunday brunch.” You can find out more at www.barcomis.de. Cynthia’s shop roasts their own coffee and all baked goods are made from scratch.
