While it’s not (quite) June, we wanted to send this early to be sure to remind you to tune in to www.emmawillard.org/commencement on June 1 at 10 a.m. to watch a live webcast of Emma Willard’s commencement. Jack Easterling will be giving the commencement address, the very first time a faculty member has been given this place of honor. Jack is retiring this year after 40 years at Emma Willard.

This time of year we’re thinking vacation. Have you ever wished EWS offered alumnae travel programs? Where would you like to go? What faculty members would you want to travel with? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

NBC Nightly News recently aired a story on Shelby Davis, husband of Gale Lansing Davis ’63, who is creating a sea change in education by giving scholarships to student leaders from around the globe to attend college in the United States. The Davis family recently chose Emma Willard as one of five independent schools in which to launch a similar pilot program for young scholars. The Emma Willard Idea campaign piece wins big

Emma Willard School has won a bronze medal in the category of individual fundraising publication from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for The Emma Willard Idea. The book, which pairs alumnae and current students who share connections and interests to illustrate the enduring power of an Emma Willard education, was honored as one of the top 20 fundraising publications out of 222 entries. Forty-four percent of students currently at Emma Willard receive financial aid, from a financial aid budget totaling nearly $2.5 million for the 2007–2008 school year.
