May 2008

Dear Alumnae,

Greetings from campus, fragrant with flowering dogwood and magnolia trees, where the students are preparing for today's May Day celebration. You can view pictures from May Day and read the latest news from campus here.

In the midst of the lovely spring weather, we have sad news to share of the passing of Board Chair Mariana Stroock Leighton '55. Please read more about Mariana's extraordinary life and passion for Emma Willard here.

On June 1, the seniors will don their white dresses for commencement, say goodbye to faculty and friends, and become Emma Willard alumnae. This event will be broadcast live on the web so you can relive the memories and share the experience. We invite you to join us by visiting www.emmawillard.org June 1 at 10 a.m.

Happy spring,

Molly Price, Director of Alumnae Relations

There's still time to bid farewell to Mr. Easterling

Forty years ago, Emma Willard School welcomed Jack Easterling to its faculty. A renaissance man through and through, he has shared his wisdom and his wit with generations of Emma Willard alumnae. Please send your recollections of Mr. Easterling—a note about how he changed your life, or any musing you wish—to alumnae@emmawillard.org. We will present him with your thoughts at Reunion 2008. You can listen to the Easterlings talk about the importance of faculty travel in bringing the world into the Emma Willard classroom and contribute toward this effort here.

2008–2009 AAC Slate

With only two members retiring this year, we have two new nominees for the Alumnae Association Council for the upcoming year, Andrea Hill ’77 and Sonya Smelyansky ’99. Please cast your vote for these candidates here.

Reunion 2008: September 26–28

Planning for Reunion 2008 is rolling right along. As part of reunion weekend, Emma Willard will host a symposium on Saturday morning entitled Women, Power, and Possibility featuring young women working for grassroots change in a variety of disciplines. We hope you can join us for this memorable weekend.

Visit your class page for more details and look for an invitation in your mailbox in the next few weeks.
