To better honor our diverse alumnae accomplishments and to continue the tradition of delivering alumnae awards, the Alumnae Association Council made some small revisions to the award process. The number of awards have been pared down to two, the criteria of the awards has been broadened to better recognize the character of an Emma alumna exhibited beyond Emma Willard, and the process has been streamlined to make it more user-friendly for both the nominator and the nominee. Please take a moment to toot a classmates’ horn, and submit a nomination for the 3s and 8s before February 18 to alumnae@emmawillard.org. Please direct any questions to Kelly Finnegan at kfinnegan@emmawillard.org or 518.833.1899.
Distinguished Young Alumna (5-20 years out)
Honors an alumna, who has graduated within the past 20 years, for embodying one or more values core to Emma Willard’s vision, including love of learning, intellectual curiosity, and the character, moral strength, and qualities of leadership to serve and shape her world. This outstanding young alumna has become an empowered woman in the community.
For some nominees, this may mean she has continued to pursue and excel in the individualized journey begun at Emma Willard’s campus. She is empowered by what she knows and accomplishes. For other candidates, this award will mean she has demonstrated the character and leadership fostered during the Emma Willard experience to discover and conquer new challenges, working to create positive change and improve the world around her.
Distinguished Alumna (25 or more years out)
Honors an alumna, who graduated 25 or more years ago, for embodying the values core to Emma Willard’s vision including love of learning, intellectual curiosity, and the character, moral strength and qualities of leadership to serve and shape her world. This Accomplished Alumna is an empowered leader in the community, empowering other women to follow in her footsteps.
For some nominees, this may mean she has achieved a significant level of achievement and excellence in her field of interest. Perhaps building on a passion or experience first identified at Emma, she is recognized for her expertise and accomplishments, motivating and inspiring others to similarly pursue those interests. For other candidates, this award means that she has engaged in either a professional or personal endeavor with integrity, creativity, smarts, and energy; she has contributed positive, long lasting change within her community, leading and inspiring others.
Service to Emma Willard Award
