Alumnae Association Council of Emma Willard School, inspired by the pioneering spirit of the school’s Founder, Emma Hart Willard, offers alumnae the opportunity to serve the school, encourages leadership, and promotes lifelong connections among members of the Emma Willard community.
Each year some new members are elected to the Alumnae Association Council. If you might be interested in serving your alma mater in this way, or know someone else who you think might be interested, please contact the AAC Governance Committee chair (see below). We need your ideas and enthusiastic participation. Even if you don't have time right now to serve, please offer your suggestions. Emma Willard alumnae are never short of opinions, and we always welcome yours.
Each member of the AAC serves on one of the following committees that do the work of the council. If you have more questions about a particular committee’s work, please contact the committee chair (listed below).
Activities Committee
Helps provide an Emma Willard School presence across country through establishment of regional clubs. Maintains a database of event ideas. Works with the Alumnae Relations Office to support programming and publicize events throughout country.
Awards Committee
Reviews the pool of Distinguished Alumnae Award candidates and solicits alumnae body for nominations. Follows up with references provided by candidates to discover additional information and interesting things about candidates. Summarizes findings and presents a ballot to the entire AAC for voting during the Spring Meeting. We are currently soliciting nominations for classes ending in the years 3 and 8. Use this link to download a nomination form.
Outreach/Communications
Develops and runs volunteer projects such as the Alumnae big sister/little sister program linking recent graduates with alumnae in their college cities/towns. Works to publicize alumnae accomplishments and create opportunities for involvement with the community. Works to increase website usage and improve content.
Governance
Recruits and presents a slate of the most qualified volunteers to the entire membership of the AAC, for eventual presentation to the Alumnae Association for vote each spring. Per the by-laws, nominates alumnae for vacancies that arise each year. Proposes amendments to the by-laws. Oversees budgetary requests from other committees for special initiatives.
