Dear Alumnae:
As a community, we are all proud of Emma Hart Willard and her dream of educating young women. Almost eighty years after the first classes were held, alumnae who wished to celebrate their unique connection of having attended the oldest all-girls school in the nation, collaborated to give back to the school they loved so deeply. From this connection, the Alumnae Association of Emma Willard School was created and continues to exist today under the leadership of the Alumnae Association Council (AAC). The primary goals of the AAC are to increase alumnae connections, provide opportunities that will serve Emma Willard alumnae, support institutional priorities, and increase school visibility.
I have been a member of the AAC for three years. I joined the AAC because I wanted to give back to a school that was so near and dear to my heart. It is important to me to be able to support the school through service as well as through financial contributions. I serve on the AAC because I value how much my education and the unique EWS environment meant to me. I want to help preserve that experience for future students, and I want to keep my fellow alumnae connected and current on what is happening on Mount Ida.
I also thoroughly enjoy being connected to a strong, educated, and powerful group of women. I find the community strong and supportive. I am proud to count among my friends women who attended EWS in the 1940s, in the 2000s, and everywhere in between! Each generation has different insights and wisdom to offer, made better by the fact that we share a common bond and purpose.
I encourage you to get in touch with me. It may not be the perfect time for you to serve on the AAC, but I would still like to hear from you. Knowing more about various alumnae interests and reflections on EWS ensures that the AAC goals and projects are reflective of the entire constituency. In addition, we will be sure to be in touch with you whenever there is a regional event in your area.
