Campus Master Plan

mma Willard School recently completed construction on Phase I of the Campus Master Plan. The plan refurbished and enhanced our community life spaces while improving our entryways, roads, and landscaping.

Antique postcard image of Sage and front entry loop. The architects originally envisioned an entry loop, ensuring an impressive entrance to the campus. This historic drawing shows the campus circa 1911.
Approaching the campus from Pawling Gate, you easily identify the formal entrance to campus at Sage Hall's porte cochere. The two-lane entry loop allows for safe traffic flow. As you round the loop in front of Sage, a gate creates a safe pedestrian area, keeping cars away from student foot traffic.
Day students used to enter the campus through the service area, a crowded and unattractive "front door." The new main entrance and student drop-off point allows students an attractive and safe entry right into the heart of the community life spaces.
Heritage spaces will not be physically altered but will enjoy new uses after restoration. This floor plan shows the layout of our new community life spaces.
Sage Dining Room, one of our two former dining spaces, is now a hub of campus life. This social lounge provides a place for relaxation and fun close to both dorm life and day student locker areas.
Sage Living Room's gracious space was underutilized. The Study's club-like furnishings provide a comfortable place for low-key interaction and study. The window seats overlook the new student pick-up area, making it easy for day students to watch for their parents' cars.
Our former kitchen was outdated, and its location made it impossible to walk through the first floor from the Sage port-cochere to the one at the end of Kellas. The e-cafe is a natural gathering place, with wireless access, an electronic news crawl, and space for posting information and enjoying snacks. It connects Kellas and Sage on the first floor.
Kellas Living Room used to sit empty most of the time. The refurbished Kellas Living Room is our beautiful new dining area.
Health Services and Kellas 1 have become an airy community space in the new dining hall and servery, and we have a new Health Center in Hyphen basement. Our new Servery is the heart of our dining area.
This architectural drawing shows Kellas Hall's elevation from Elmgrove Avenue with the new bump-out addition to accommodate the Servery. The new addition to Kellas provides natural light to the Servery.

There are more than 100 gargoyles gazing down on Emma Willard's campus.
