Over the past two weeks, six Emma tennis players have powered their way through the Sectional II individual championships. On October 31, 2012, all six Emma players who went to sectionals made it through to the state tournament, which kicks off Saturday, November 3, 2012 in Latham, New York. This means that Emma girls will comprise two-thirds of the Section II team going to the upcoming state championships. Section II includes teams from all over the region, making this an astounding feat according to their coaches.
“This is an unheard of achievement,” said Head Coach and Business Applications Manager Judith Curry. “It certainly makes Emma tennis history and I am pretty sure Section II history.”
During the sectional play yesterday, Keishorea Armstrong and Mitali Das took the Section II doubles crown. Claire Schmitz was the runner up in singles action and Chassidy King came in third. Doubles powerhouse Kailin Baechle and Samantha Blond will also be joining their teammates at states.
