The Emma Willard School tennis team has dominated girl’s tennis in Section II for the past two seasons, winning all nine individual matches of every team match for both years in the sectional tournament. The team capped off an outstanding winning streak on October 18, 2012 as they won their second consecutive New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA championship in Schenectady, New York’s Central Park.
Suburban Council Chairman Bill McArthur, who has been following girls’ high school tennis throughout New York State for more than 30 years, told the Times Union following the win, “I said last year (watching you win) that’s the best high school team I’ve seen. You did it again, and this is the best team I’ve seen”.
Emma Willard is sending six players to the individual tournament that starts this Monday, October 22. Keishorea Armstrong , Kailin Baechle, Samantha Blond, Mitali Das, Chassidy King, and Claire Schmitz will all be attending. The top three finishers in singles and doubles will qualify for States in Latham, New York on November 3-5 and play as part of the NYS Section II team.
