Emma Willard School Senior Anne Leonardo has been named as a Semifinalist in the annual National Merit® Scholarship Program. The distinction honors academically talented high school seniors and places them in the running to earn one of 8,300 National Merit Scholarships for college next spring. Only approximately one percent of seniors at high schools around the country reach this level of the competition.
“An honor like this happens only because a student has put in effort over the long haul,” said Head of School Trudy Hall. “Anne clearly has. We are ever so proud of this honor for her as it speaks volumes about her and her work ethic.”
Anne is from Cooperstown, New York. In addition to her academic prowess, she is both a musician and athlete. While at Emma she has played the flute, bass guitar, guitar, and saxophone, as well as sung in the choir and inner choir. She has played on both the field hockey and lacrosse teams throughout her time at Emma and served as team captain on both teams. Among her many other activities, she has also been a peer educator, tour guide, member of Emma Green (the student sustainability group), and performed in several plays.
