The Emma Willard Idea

Campaign Progress & News

The Campaign

We invite you to empower the next generation of Emma Willard women by participating in an ambitious $75 million effort. Priorities include:

• Endowment for scholarships to make an Emma Willard education accessible to an even greater range of talented and motivated students.

• Endowment for faculty excellence so Emma Willard can continue to recruit, retain, and support exceptional teachers.

• Unrestricted endowment so Emma Willard can innovate and plan for the future with confidence.

• Annual giving to support day-to-day excellence in teaching and student life.

Progress

With a record $1,600,681 in gifts to the Annual Fund in 2006–2007, and a current Campaign total of more than $57 million, we are inspired by the extraordinary generosity of Emma Willard’s alumnae, parents, and friends. But we need your help to fund the essential strategic initiatives that remain—especially the pressing need to strengthen the school’s scholarship resources.

Gifts that Empower

At every level, donors are stretching to make their largest-ever gifts to Emma Willard—gifts that are making a difference to students and their teachers.

• Twin sisters who graduated in 1988 are endowing a $50,000 scholarship fund to strengthen the school’s financial aid program.

• The Davis Scholars Program, created by Gale Lansing Davis '63 and her family, will offer as many as eight full scholarships per year to outstanding students from across the globe.

• The mother of a member of the Class of 1970 is supporting great teaching by establishing a $500,000 fund for faculty excellence.

• A member of the Class of 1975 has pledged $125,000 to boost the school’s unrestricted endowment and the Annual Fund.

• A member of the Class of 2000, who has supported Emma Willard every year since graduation, gave her largest gift of $150 to the 2006–2007 Annual Fund.

• Eight alumnae—graduates of every decade from the 1920’s through the 1960’s—have given gifts of $1 million+ for purposes including endowed faculty chairs, unrestricted endowment, and initiatives that enhance students’ technological fluency.

• A new gift, announced at Saturday evening’s “We Are Emma” event, will have a transforming impact on the diversity of Emma Willard’s student body.

We ask you to join these alumnae, parents, and friends to help Emma Willard do what it does best: educate girls powerfully for the world they will inherit. For more information, please contact:

The Facts of Empowerment

"I have given to the school over the years not only because I am grateful for my own education, but also because I believe much of the world's future will depend on the efforts of intelligent and capable women. For a young woman to achieve identity, independence, and intellectual courage, she must have excellent teaching at an early age. I am very proud that Emma Willard provides such a superb education."
