Charitable Remainder Trusts
trust
is a legal agreement that allows you to make a significant gift to
Emma Willard School while providing income from the assets you place in the
trust for yourself or another person. There are two types of charitable remainder
trusts: the unitrust, in which income fluctuates annually with the fairmarket
value of the trust; and the annuity trust, in which income payments are fixed
and determined when the gift is made. These individually managed trusts offer
the following important benefits:
- Creation of a CRT entitles you to a sizable income tax deduction.
- The income from the CRT, together with your tax savings, usually produces
increased spendable income.
- With gifts of appreciated property, capital gains taxes are deferred,
and in many cases, avoided entirely.
- Donated assets are not subject to gift or estate taxes.
Most important, charitable remainder trusts allow you to make a significant gift to Emma Willard School, often larger than would otherwise be possible. For more information about this type of gift contact Michele Susko, Associate Director of Advancement, at (518) 833-1788 or by email at msusko@emmawillard.org.

From a sublime evening of chamber music to the zany Two Men Dancing About Math, Emma Willard’s arts calendar features an impressive range of concerts, gallery shows, artists-in-residence, guest speakers, dance assemblies, plays, films, recitals, and special events.
