Grand Opening

The opening of the 2e Café took place Sunday night. With the generous help of Linda Glazer Toohey '66, the EW community can now walk from one end of Sage to the other end of Kellas without going up or down stairs. Toohey felt the school needed a place for day students and boarders alike; the café connects students as well as buildings. The opening featured a ribbon cutting ceremony, and cookies and beverages were served. Click here to see the video.

Proctor Retreat
This weekend, proctors went to a retreat at Sunset Point along beautiful Lake Peck in Fulton County. They had a chance to do some role playing and plan and talk about events they would like to do throughout the year. This helped strengthened their bond outside the school environment in the same way they helped strengthen bonds among the freshmen when they accompanied them on their retreat earlier in the year. (See the Sept. 15 news item.)

Faculty Art Show

The new faculty art show is on display in Dietel gallery. The exhibit features different pieces that teachers produced. As you walk through the art show, you experience the different presentations in media and message which provide a window to the teachers' emotions and states of mind. For arts instructor Susan Hoffer, her family is a source of inspiration. She explains that a piece may be interpreted differently by people viewing it, and their interpretations may still be different from the artist's intentions. This is one extraordinary exhibt! The show runs until October 24.

Cross Country Play Volleyball

The Emma Willard cross country team was at the starting line about to begin their meet against Stoneleigh-Burnham when thunder was heard overhead and it began to rain. When the coaches decided to wait it out, the two teams trekked to the gym and enjoyed a fierce game of volleyball. After an hour of hard play, the weather still had not cooperated and the coaches decided to call off the meet. The EW harriers gathered their new acquaintances and headed to the dining hall for dinner. The day may not have ended with the crossing of a finish line, but everyone had a good time and both teams improved their volleyball skills.
