Emma Willard in the News

Veteran TV Journalist to Speak at EWS

October 12, 2007

n Wednesday, October 17, at 10:40 a.m., veteran television journalist Lynn Sherr of ABC News will be the first speaker in the annual “Serving and Shaping Her World Speakers Series” at Emma Willard School in Troy, New York. In an award-winning 30-year career, Sherr has covered a vast number of stories with emphasis on investigative reporting, women’s issues, and national politics. Before joining ABC’s 20/20 in 1986, she was a national correspondent for ABC News and a reporter for WCBS News, and has covered extremely diverse subjects including homelessness, the Clinton presidency, teenage anorexia, and even dinosaurs. Her awards for investigative reports and specials are many, as are the positive reviews of her written work. In addition to several articles, Sherr wrote a biography of Susan B. Anthony and interestingly, a book on giraffes entitled Tall Blondes. The title of her lecture at Emma is “Outside the Box: My Life In and Out of Television.”

Each school year, the Serving and Shaping Her World Speakers Series invites lecturers whose interests and accomplishments reflect the values and mission of Emma Willard School. Speakers in this assembly program explicitly address global, women’s, artistic, ethical, health, and scientific perspectives. Classroom and advisee group discussions help students assess and integrate the topics and consider what broadening their perspectives will bring to their lives as students and citizens of the world. Lynn Sherr will speak in Kiggins Hall, on the Emma Willard campus, on Wednesday, October 17, at 10:40 a.m. The lecture is closed and will not be open to the public. Opportunities for interviews/photos will be provided for interested members of the media. For more information contact Steve Ricci at sricci@emmawillard.org, (518) 833-1785.
