The Nature Among Us

wo artists working in different mediums share their view of the same subject in a new exhibit at the Dietel Gallery at Emma Willard School. On display through December 15, the exhibit reveals both artists’painter Laura Von Rosk and weaver Fuyuko Matsubara distinctive observations of the natural world through their respective mediums.
Von Rosk’s paintings have been exhibited nationally in both solo and group shows. Her honors include a 2004 fellowship in painting from the New York Foundation for the Arts, as well as grants from the Pollack-Krasner Foundation, the Berheim Foundation, and residency fellowships at the Vermont Studio Center, Yaddo, The Millay Colony, Centrum, and Dorland Mountain Arts Colony. She received an M.F.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Purchase.
Matsubara’s weavings have been exhibited internationally and she has been a visiting artist at a number of universities throughout the U.S. She currently is an associate professor of art at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. She received her M.F.A. at Cranbrook Academy of Art and an M.A. and a B.A. from Musashino Art University in Tokyo.
The Dietel Gallery is located on the campus of Emma Willard School, 285 Pawling Ave., Troy. The gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The gallery is closed for school holidays and summer vacation.
