Spaghetti Dinner to Benefit Local Animal Shelter

February 13, 2007

mma Willard School’s Student Organization for Animal Respect (SOAR) will hold its third annual Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, March 2, 2007, on the Emma Willard campus from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. All proceeds raised from this event will be donated directly to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society.

Located in Menands, the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society is a nonprofit organization that provides a shelter for homeless and abandoned animals from Albany and Rensselaer counties. As part of Emma Willard’s community-service curriculum, SOAR members volunteer at the shelter every Wednesday to provide animal care, maintain the shelter, and help with promotion and fundraising. The shelter is currently in extreme need of support because of an outbreak of disease last summer, which resulted in the loss of a number of animals, as well as a great deal of supplies. At last year’s dinner, SOAR raised more than $1,000.

Tickets for the March 2 dinner are available from Betsy Lamoureux at blamoureux@emmawillard.org or (518) 833-1500, and also at the front desk of the animal shelter. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for students and children. Raffle tickets for prizes sponsored by local businesses will be available during the dinner.
