As Commencement approaches and we marvel (once more) at how the spring term has flown, there is much to share about life on campus.

The Dance Company spent several days last month in Puebla, Mexico, where they absorbed the culture, took festival classes, and danced for very appreciative audiences. Saturday’s spring dance concert, Ilusiones, will reflect much of the meaning and feeling of their trip. Learn more about that trip here.

Honors Convocation brought distinction to many seniors in the form of the coveted EW and Cum Laude Awards. In addition, Heidi Dwyer was honored with the Madelyn Levitt and Linda Glazer Toohey Award for Faculty Excellence. A member of our community since 2004, Heidi serves as coach, houseparent, Seminar and Inner Journey advisor, as well as student advocate. This occasion always brings particular pleasure as we recognize those who contribute so much to Emma Willard School.

On the first Friday in May, the seniors sponsored the annual May Day celebration. The theme of this year's production was Disney's Mulan, complete with warriors, huns, an emperor, and a dragon. The freshmen did a great job wrapping the Maypole according to tradition.

Sorrow greeted the Emma community as well this spring as we mourn the passing of our dear friend and board chair, Mariana Stroock Leighton ’55.  Mariana loved this place and brought tireless energy and thoughtful wisdom to board discussions and important decisions about the future of Emma Willard School. This link will enable you to hear Trudy Hall’s commemorative remarks at Morning Reports.

Spring Fling is scheduled for Saturday and, for the first time, we’ve invited prospective day students from the Capital District to join in the fun. They’ll participate in the carnival-like events during the afternoon, have a campus tour, dinner in the dining hall, and then enjoy the spring dance concert. Our goal is to make Emma Willard more accessible and inviting to our regional community.
