The Process

The college admissions and selection process is the responsibility of Emma Willard School, parents and the girls themselves.

Emma takes responsibility for:

  • Assisting the girls in clarifying their values, assessing their strengths and identifying their goals
  • Providing them and their parents with accurate information and realistic guidance about colleges and the college admissions process
  • Providing colleges with information about Emma Willard School
  • Facilitating standardized tests
  • Aiding students in building an initial college list
  • Making educated guesses about their prospects at certain institutions
  • Supporting their applications with documentation and recommendations
  • Monitoring student progress in the application process through enrollment

We expect students to:

  • Take initiative
  • Do research
  • Visit colleges
  • Meet deadlines
  • Ask questions

And parents should:

  • Be objective sounding boards for their daughters
  • Discuss their own expectations and parameters with their daughters
  • Be supportive and instructive
