Areas of Study:
Languages
mma
Willard expects students to be able to communicate effectively in
a foreign language, as well as understand the culture, literature, and history
of another country. We help each student choose a path of language study
based on her interests, personal preferences, or ambitions:
- French as a political and economic tool, and for its rich literary
tradition;
- Latin to study the classics in their original form and to learn the
word origins favored by Herman Melville and The New York Times;
- Spanish for its practicality, its sense of oral rhythm, and its connection
to contemporary literature.
No matter what language a student chooses—sometimes more than one—she
gets thorough training enhanced by films, excursions, and guest speakers.
And annual school-sponsored trips abroad provide
the unparalleled experience of living the language while learning it.
