Academic Adventure

New York City Field Trip

On the second Wednesday of each session, all students travel by air-conditioned coach to New York City for a program-specific academic field trip. Students are organized by class and led by their teachers; the academic field trip takes advantage of the city’s amazing and endless resources. Every year the trips are different, but each class spends a day visiting, seeing, and learning about places and things specifically related to their academic track.

Here are a few examples from previous years: Our Writers Workshop students have visited the offices of Teen Vogue, Self, and Vanity Fair magazines. The have also toured the studios at Fox News Network as well as attended and performed readings at The Poets’ House. Mock Trial students have watched a trial at the federal courthouse and even had an audience with a federal district court judge. Other GirlSummer classes have visited the United Nations, enjoyed an acting workshop in French at The French Institute, and attended Broadway performances like Phantom of the Opera, Man of La Mancha and Hair Spray.
