Astronomy

This summer, we are excited to offer Astronomy as part of our Girl-Summer course offerings. Always a popular school-year elective, Astronomy is a new option for our two-week immersive academic experience. Don’t let the photo fool you! Our summers are sunny and warm and filled with plenty of clear nights for star-gazing. This is just an example of the hands-on learning and field-work from our school-year program that we are incorporating into our summer session.

This summer, our Astronomy course is taught by an Emma Willard faculty member. She has adapted the curriculum for a fantastic two weeks, learning about the galaxies and star systems, conducting labs, using the equipment and exploring some of the universe’s greatest mysteries and phenomena. This course is a perfect match for anyone interested in learning about Astronomy and what the field has to offer as well as understanding the skies and beyond in a whole new way.

Students are introduced to the first discoveries made beyond our world and the current thinking and revelations in astronomical study. Then they approach their investigations through a wide variety of activities, lectures, discussions and field work. The mornings may be filled with talks and class work, while the afternoons are perfect opportunities for conducting experiments, and clear evenings may draw class outside to use the telescopes and discuss observations. Join us for this fantastic new course and come away with a whole new way to understand and view space and the infinite bodies with which we share it.
