Language immersion in French or Spanish

We create a linguistic learning environment that provides students with many opportunities to speak their selected language – in class, over lunch, and during a wide range of activities. Students choose either beginner / intermediate or intermediate / advanced, and teachers sort girls into the appropriate class on the first day based on student ability and comfort level with the language.

Dive into two full weeks of language immersion in Spanish or French. Our language program is designed for all ability levels. The lessons are not built on the rote memorization of grammar – that is boring and ineffective. Language at GirlSummer is fun!

In order to strengthen their language communication skills, Girls learn about proper verb tense, organizing sentences, pronunciation, and inflection. But the real fun is developing cultural awareness through listening, speaking, reading, writing, painting, and even cooking. Last year the French class attended an acting workshop conducted in French at the French Institute, NYC. The students practiced their language and had a blast acting too. Likewise, the Spanish students had a great time at the New York Latin Dance and Musical School, learning to salsa, merengue and tango!

We know that no one can become fluent in two weeks or even two years, so our goal is to challenge the girls and send them back to school with new perspectives on the culture and an excitement for learning the language.
