Emma Willard School alumnae are women of authority, passion, vision, initiative, and generosity of spirit. Emma is what it is today because of those who passed through its halls, who served and shaped the world then, and who continue to lead its future.
At Emma, success is more than a means to an end. While our graduates continue on to the most academically rigorous and celebrated colleges and universities in the world, the value of the Emma experience can only be measured in the confidence, passion, and independence it imparts in each of its graduates. Whether she is 13 or 83, an Emma Girl will always be an Emma Girl.
Our mission is to help students gain admission to colleges and universities that fit their intellectual and personal abilities, their interests, and their aspirations. In its efforts to educate, counsel, guide, support, and advocate for them throughout the college process, the college counseling team is guided by the philosophy that “college is a match to be made, not a prize to be won.” (Frank Sachs) Fit is emphasized over perceived prestige.

“The perseverance and plain old hard work needed to do a thing well is part of the air we breathe when we are at Emma. It is in the walls and in the green grass under our feet.” Emily ’84
