Read below to see how Emma athletes fared on the track, field, and slopes last week.
Indoor Track and Field
At the Division II Indoor Track and Field Sectionals, Sharde J. ’18 broke a 15-year-old school record held Caitlyn K. ’02 in the Indoor High Jump. Sharde’s leap of 5’ 6” also won the sectional meet and qualified her for the prestigious Penn Relays event bettering her personal record by two inches.
At the same sectional championship, Tiffany D. ’17 took third in the sectional triple jump with a jump of 32’ 9.5” while Julia B. 18’ jumped a personal record of 12’ 10” in the long jump.
On the track, AK A.’17 won the 55m and Olivia P. ’18 also broke the previous school record in the 1500m race walk with a time of 7:48--10 seconds faster than her previous pr.
Emma won the giant slalom race as a team—a first for the year, which was an exciting start to the morning and set the stage for the afternoon slalom which is usually the team’s strongest event. However, we ended up third in that race. Our finishers were Chloe sixth, Cal seventh, Lara in 16th, Anya 17th, Eliza 22nd, and Sally 32nd. We were still able to take third place in the Section 2 Championships after Shen and Queensbury. In the team scoring, we won the GS with 21 points followed by Queensbury with 25 and Shen with 27. In the slalom, we had 29 points with Queensberry 23 and Shen with 17 points for the win. Overall: Shen 44 points, Queensbury 48 points, and 50 points for us.
The State Championship team was named with Cal and Chloe both being sent to the state championships out of the six individual spots available! They will be in Bristol in two weeks for that race.
