Invest in Future Generations of Young Women
Gift planning will allow your philanthropic commitment to Emma Willard School to live on and foster in future generations of young women the habits and qualities of leadership to serve and shape their world.
Planning ahead can help you to craft win-win solutions for you, your family, and Emma Willard School. You are invited to explore this website and imagine your legacy. When you are ready, contact a member of our team for specific details about a gift tailored to your needs.
Many members of The Sage Society have defined their Emma Willard legacy in ways they might not have thought possible. We look forward to working with you.

The Sage Society
Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage, a pioneer of women’s education and a student of Emma Hart Willard at the former Troy Female Seminary, made generous gifts during her lifetime and through her estate. Her generosity allowed Emma Willard School to build its existing beautiful campus on Mount Ida. The two main buildings, Slocum and Sage Hall, are named in her honor. Our planned giving society is named the Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage Society (“Sage Society”).
Donors who make any type of planned gift or bequest intention to Emma Willard School will be enrolled in the Sage Society and will receive the owl pin, the indicia of membership in the Sage Society. If you have included us in your estate plans but have not let us know yet, please reach out to us so that we can enroll you in the Sage Society and send you the owl pin.
Benefits of Membership:
- Special recognition, including your name listed in the Annual Report on Giving which is mailed to all alumnae, parents, and friends of the School. If you prefer, you may also request to be listed anonymously.
- Receipt of an Insider Letter from the Head of School, sent bi-annually.
- Prominent listing as a Sage Society member displayed in Sage Hall.
- Special recognition during Reunion Weekend.
- Our Sage Society owl pin.
“It is vital in today's world that girls have a space where they are the highest priority. What would the world look like if we truly harnessed the gifts women have to contribute? I have created my legacy at Emma Willard to ensure this opportunity is available for generations to come.”
“I've made a legacy gift to Emma Willard because the school has been such an important part of my life. I hope my contribution will help others reap the benefits of academic excellence, lifelong friendships, and female leadership development that were made possible for me through an Emma Willard scholarship.”
“So many sparks! That's how I describe my Emma Willard education: sparks that lit my intellectual curiosity...there was so much to explore! this love of learning has enriched my life ever since. Today, when I come upon something new, I think of those sparks and dig in.”
“The more alumnae I meet, the more I realize how powerful a group we are and how providing for the future of Emma Willard School is very important so future students can receive the same incredible education I was so lucky to have and can experience the strong bond that Emma graduates have to one another.”
