Yuma M. '21 Commended for Her Leadership at Ivy Leader Program

Katie Coakley
Over Thanksgiving break, Yuma M. ’21 participated in an eight-day leadership, college prep, and service program called Ivy Leader at Dartmouth College. Program Director Ryan Sinclair, director of global leadership and service learning at Cardigan Mountain School, shared his experience working with Yuma.
I had the opportunity to work with Emma Willard student Yuma M. as she joined a group of boarding school students on an eight-day leadership, college prep, and service program called Ivy Leader. The program took place at Dartmouth College, where students engaged in lectures that focused on subjects such as leadership, feedback, creative writing, and negotiation; participated in college prep sessions; and also had some fun exploring the town of Hanover, N.H.
While Yuma was a solid contributor during our lectures and workshops, our staff was thoroughly impressed with her passion for serving others. The Ivy Leader group partnered with a local organization that prepares Thanksgiving dinner and delivers meals to over 1,200 families in need living in the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont. Yuma enthusiastically decorated, chopped and cooked vegetables, and worked hard side-by-side with other community members.
She exemplified intellectual curiosity, confidence, and leadership in her work throughout the entire program, and Ivy Leader would like to commend her for her poise, commitment to her education, and spirit of service.
Way to go, Yuma!
