Campus Leadership Team Completes Assessment of School's Sexual Assault Policies, Procedures, and Programming

On December 14, the Emma Willard School Campus Leadership Team (CLT) met to conduct a full review of the school’s CORE Evaluation as part of the ongoing healthy boundaries initiatives undertaken in the school’s partnership with Culture of Respect (CoR).

Emma Willard School was the first high school to partner with the CoR—an affiliate of the organization NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education). The Core Evaluation is a self-assessment that requires schools to examine their policies, procedures, programs, and overall culture. The questions are organized around the six pillars of the CORE Blueprint: survivor support; clear policies; adjudication and penalties; robust, multitiered education; and public disclosure.

During the assessment the CLT identified both strengths and opportunities to address in the upcoming year. They found that policy language in both the Employee Handbook and in Fine Print had improved and that student awareness on how to report sexual violence was high. The group did decide that language around the collection of evidence of a sexual assault could be more clear, as could the language describing what happens after reporting a sexual assault.

Overall, the group agreed that a lot of good work had been accomplished over that last two years, when the evaluation was first taken, and that there were still areas in need of additional effort and programming. The Campus Leadership Team will meet again on January 24.
