For centuries people have searched for light in the darkness surrounding the winter solstice. Among others, Christians and Jews have borrowed from pagan seasonal rituals, blending faith with light to illuminate the world when the earth is cold and dark. Great music and timeless art have been inspired by this quest for light in the darkness.
These words from the Eventide program introduced the musical event of the season at Emma Willard School. Under the direction of Debra Spiro-Allen (choir) and Elizabeth Silver (orchestra), music students gift the audience with a program filled with musical selections to bring joy, light, and reflection to what can sometimes be a stressful time of year. We invite you to take a moment as the new year dawns to enjoy a sampling of the music that was shared at Eventide 2019.
