In Nseya’s own words:
On Emma Willard School…
When I first told my family in 7th grade that I wanted to go to boarding school
they were a little concerned, but ultimately they were supportive of me. I honestly think it was because they would miss me too much! When I looked at schools for the first time, all-girls schools definitely were not on my radar, but a teacher at my old school told me I should probably look at them. On my first visit, I loved how Emma had such a great community
and I realized that this community
was one I wanted to be a part of.
The first week of being at Emma was kind of rough for me because I had to make all new friends and was in an all-new environment, but over the first long weekend, I made some really awesome friends.
One of my favorite classes at Emma is Ms. Tryon
’s acting class because I think it really taught me to get out of my comfort zone and to be outgoing. My second favorite class at Emma is Biology because I really like learning about what makes things live and just how life works.
Coming in last year as a new 10th grader is what makes my experience unique. When I first came in I was worried that everyone already made their friends and wouldn’t want to be friends with me. I was so surprised by how welcoming the Emma community is and how everyone respects each other.
I’m really passionate about nature. Ever since I was a toddler, I was always outside playing with bugs, bringing home rocks, and climbing trees. I would just spend hours upon hours outside. Around 5th or 6th grade, I went to a nature camp to learn about how I can take care of nature and learn how beautiful it is. I’ve learned that there are so many aspects of nature that make it so beautiful and gets it to that point. I would definitely love to learn how to make nature a better environment for all of its inhabitants.
On the Arts…
I’m curious about art—painting or drawing. I'm interested in learning how to play new instruments like the drums or the guitar.
On Emma Traditions…
My favorite tradition is either Revels (obviously) or May Day.
I would just like to say thank you to all the people who have made my experience at Emma an awesome one. I’ve learned so much and Emma has been an environment that helped me grow as a person. This school isn’t like any other school. It has helped me be the best I know I can be and make some friends that I know will definitely last a lifetime. I’m just so thankful for that!
Thanks, Nseya, for sharing your passions and contributing to the Emma Willard School community in unique and significant ways. We look forward to seeing the impact you will have as you serve and shape our world!
