Jennifer Kealy '81 - Distinguished Alumna

In her application to Emma Willard School, Jennifer Kealy ’81 stated, "Any chance I have to travel, I do!” And travel she has, as a global entrepreneur, teacher, and changemaker.

In the words of her nominator, “Jennifer’s life and career embody each of the core values of Emma Willard School. She’s always curious and eager to learn: history, literature, languages, and in particular, the sciences.” On receiving her master's in Public Health, Jennifer founded a global consulting company in Annecy, France, becoming a one-woman force, providing guidance for global clinical research and auditing services to guide pharmaceutical, biotechnology, nonprofits and academic institutions. She focused on Phase I-IV drug trials concentrated in cardiovascular, neurology, and oncology therapies.

Her travel logs could be a National Geographic mini-series covering medicine in Serbia, Nepal, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Western and Eastern Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia. While involved
in an eight-year project in Liberia, her time with the children of a mission school allowed her
to share her love of learning by endowing scholarships for girls of the village to continue their studies. She became a mentor to those interested in the sciences. She also helped provide refurbished computers and accessories so local communities could educate their children,
offer job opportunities, and bridge the digital divide.

As her success and experience grew, she saw the necessity to improve training for medical personnel, academics, regulators, and associated clinical facilities. Jennifer provided lectures to the Universities of Basel and Geneva, Switzerland, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, The Gates Foundation, and the World Health Organization, among others. Specifically, she trained in the areas of patient-informed consent, management of clinical trials, medical misconduct within research, and consistency and transparency of data collection.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jennifer helped her Emma Willard classmates understand the science and truth of an unknown virus, patiently reading and answering posts, messages, or emails seeking help or clarifications. She shared updates on vaccines, testing, and treatments—providing clear information. Currently, Jennifer is a consultant with the World Health Organization regarding essential medicines and health products while pursuing her doctorate at the University of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Additionally, Jennifer is the Founder and CEO of Applied GCP whose mission is to build and expand clinical research knowledge and capacity in low and middle income countries. In the words of her nominator and classmate, “Jennifer is a shining example of successfully blending the absolutes
of science while maintaining humanity in her work.”

For devoting her life and work to ensuring healthcare reaches the underserved and inspiring the next generation of scientists across the globe, the Emma Willard community proudly bestows upon Jennifer Kealy ’81 the 2021 Distinguished Alumna Award.
