Share Your Light!

December is a month of traditions around the world, and that is especially true at Emma Willard School. Starting with the holiday tree, lovingly decorated by the sophomore class in honor of the seniors, and continuing through Eventide, a week of gift-giving through Peanuts and Shells, and culminating with Revels, Emma’s traditions unite us in community.
Recently, Head of School Jenny Rao shared a moment she experienced during Eventide that captured her attention and heart: While our choir performed “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming” under the iconic chapel arch, the candle of one of our students in the choir went out. Immediately and without prompting, a student with light and a student without light leaned their candles towards one another and lit the missing candle. They continued singing and gave each other light without needing to speak or even look at one another. Instinctively, they knew that in our community we share the light.

As we approach these final days of 2021, we wish all in the Emma community and beyond a time filled with peace, joy, and meaningful connections. We invite you to look back on some of the traditions of this holiday season, and embrace your own opportunities to share the light!
