The AATF was formed in August 2016 at the request of the Board. Their charge was “reviewing the policies and practices in place at our school today regarding the education, prevention and reporting of sexual abuse and misconduct." The Board asked that the AATF evaluate, and in a final report to the board and community, make recommendations that bolster the safety of all.
The final report included recommendations such as clarification in mandated reporting policy, updates to verbiage in school handbooks, more clear and up front references to ‘grooming’ available on the externally facing website, a creation of a school Ombudsman, and expanded background checks on anyone over the age of 17 who may be on campus regularly.
Some of the recommendations have already been addressed, or are in the process of being addressed through the engagement of experts at Culture of Respect and Emma’s Campus Core Leadership Team. The Board was pleased to note that newly introduced recommendations were helpful and insightful. The final version of the AATF report has been sent to the Culture of Respect for review and integration with ongoing work at the school.
