What fills a day in the life of an Emma dog? We’ve got you covered, looking at what fills a day on campus for Otto, a dog who knows the value of cheese. We took a quick walk around campus with Otto and his person, Resident Faculty member Catherine Knauss, earlier this spring to get a sense of Otto’s view of campus!

But Why Would I Get Out of Bed?

A connoisseur of the more comfortable aspects of life, Otto stays in bed and questions the idea of leaving and by extension, those of us who get up early in the morning.

Another Bed

He is not fussy about which bed, and has many places on campus in which to lounge.

Couch Potato

This includes the sofas in the dorms, with their squishy pillows. Though he is in repose, Otto is also often on alert and on duty.

Will Walk for Cheese

Catherine coaxes Otto out of his nest with copious amounts of cheese treats, enjoyed here in an elevator.

Treat Time

Like Jurgie, Otto knows that Campus Safety is the place to be if you need a snack (in addition to the cheese)

You Want Me to go Where?

Outside? Right now? Otto is dubious about inner campus, remembering that inside is where the cozy parts of life are.

The Things Otto Puts Up With

Photos with his person, Resident Faculty Catherine Knauss, outside on a nice day: a hard life for an old soul.

At this point, Otto decides it is time to go back inside (but only a few steps at a time, with more cheese in exchange for movement).

A fixture around campus, Otto’s sleek figure can be seen in many forms of illustration:

He stood in for a unit of measurement at the height of our social distancing time.

His noodle-ish shape is immortalized in many instances of white-board art.

But mostly, his sweet nature and desire for cuddles makes him a true campus favorite.

Thank you for letting us hang, Otto!
