Last Friday evening our campus was treated to the annual Apollo talent show organized by the Black Latinx Student Union (BLSU). The event is a chance for members of the community to show off their talents, share food, and enjoy an evening of fun!

For the last several years, the show has taken advantage of the late spring weather with a stage on the grass of inner campus. This year, the tricky weather made the event move back indoors: but the new Klingenstein Concert Hall was a perfect spot for the performances.
The audience at Apollo, decked out in glitter, watches the performances from the new red seats in the concert hall.
This year’s theme was inspired by the aesthetic of the show Euphoria, and the performers and audience turned out in their glittery best alongside the pink lighting on stage, stars dangling from microphones, and shiny decor hanging from the loges.

One of the school community’s favorite events of the year, campus families arrive to enjoy the spectacle, and sometimes even perform!
Every year at Apollo, Dr. Ashley Bennet's son performs for the community! This year he sang "Bye Bye Bye" by *NSYNC!
The acts largely center around music, but feature a wide range of genres and vary from solo acts, bands, lip synchs, and take on a wide range of emotions from heartfelt ballads, to clever MC quips, to comedic interludes. Truly, no one knows what to expect next!

One of the most marked parts of this tradition is the willingness for various students and community members to come together and help each other perform. From teachers playing music alongside students, to the community cheering wildly when someone corrects a mistake, the feeling at Apollo is always one of unwavering fun and support.

Apollo is a beloved event on campus that has truly become an Emma tradition not only for the contagious joy and enthusiasm that comes with encouraging the community to perform, but for the sense of belonging and community that BLSU encourages throughout the event.
