track and field wasaren league

In celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Emma Willard School indoor track and field team turned in an impressive performance at the Wasaren Indoor Track Championships on Saturday at Union College, finishing third overall in the team standings with one scoring event still remaining.

Emma Willard athletes made key contributions across the track and in the field, highlighted by strong relay performances that played a major role in the team’s overall placement. The Girls 4x800 meter relay delivered one of the meet’s top finishes for the Jesters, placing second overall with a time of 12:00.41. The Girls 4x200 meter relay added valuable points with a fourth-place finish in 2:15.20, while the Girls 4x400 meter relay closed out the day with a fifth-place finish in 5:11.01.

Individually, Emma Willard saw great efforts throughout the meet. Liji H. ’27 captured a league championship title in the high jump, clearing 5 feet to place first overall. Liji also added points in both the long jump and triple jump, finishing fourth in both events. In the hurdles, Simi A-H. ’26 placed fourth in the 50-meter hurdles, with Alex B. ’28 close behind in fifth. Hazel L. ’27 had a personal best in the 45 dash, finishing 6th to secure an extra point for EWS.

Middle-distance standout runner Vivian T. ’28 led the way on the track, placing third in the 600 meters (1:55.87) and fourth in the 1000 meters (3:39.86). Vivian was selected as a Wasaren League at-large All-Star for her performance. Distance events also saw strong results, as Sky P. ’29 earned a second-place finish in the 3000 meters, beating her personal best by close to 50 seconds.

Emma Willard currently sits third in the team standings, with the final event, the weight throw, set to be contested next weekend at Sectionals. Results from that event will be added to the Wasaren championship totals to determine the final league standings. With multiple athletes set to compete, the Jesters will look to close out the Indoor championship season on a strong note.
