After a quiet summer on Mount Ida, Emma Willard School is once again filled with activity, laughter, and smiling faces of new and returning students—the first full week of classes is finally here!

Last week, Emma Willard welcomed 112 new students from near and far to join our community at the start of another incredible school year. Our new students represent 12 states and 18 countries, 13 are children of alums or family connections, and 15 are GirlSummer alums!

Of the over 100 new arrivals, most make up the Class of 2028! With first-timers in each grade for the 2024–2025 school year, here’s your chance to get to know our new Jesters through some fun facts!

All About Arts: Several students are involved in the arts from professional acting and modeling, being involved in silk choreography (e.g. Cirque du Soleil), pottery, video-making, playing violin, a singer of classical Indian music, and one student placed 3rd in the OVA (Olympics of Visual Arts).

Game Time: Many new students are athletes, including an avid swimmer who is currently #1 in the Capital Region and #37 in the country for the breaststroke, varsity skiers (and a ski patrol/instructor at Gore Mountain), soccer and softball players, equestrian drill team members, rock climbers, golfers, and more!

Lending a Hand: Several of our new students help out in their communities supporting children, the elderly, and each other. One student started a "homework club" at her school.

Intellectually Curious: One of our new students has read over 2,000 books so far in her lifetime, another student speaks Chinese as her third language, and more are science bowl participants, members of coding club, and math Olympiad.

A Variety of Interests: Emma students have a broad range of interests, and that’s evident in our new members! One student leads a Dungeons and Dragons campaign, while another is the first female to join the Naval Sea Cadet Core, and one loves doing home renovations and has renovated her own bathroom and bedroom, and one has a cooking and baking channel online!

We can't wait to get to know the new faces on Emma’s campus, and to follow their progress and learn of the ways they will continue to enhance our community. Every year, we are delighted to welcome the leaders of tomorrow who continue to find unique ways to serve and shape our world.
