Silvia Edmonds

Silvia Edmonds joined Emma Willard School as the director of development in the spring of 2023. Her work includes connecting with families, alumnae, and friends to foster ongoing support for the school's mission.

What brought you to Emma Willard School?

Growing up right here in Troy, I’ve spent my life looking up at the beautiful Emma Willard campus on the hill. After more than 30 years in community relations and leading fundraising efforts at Northeast Health and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, I had the wonderful privilege of meeting so many Emma Willard alumnae and families. Seeing their deep, heartfelt love for the school was truly inspiring. When the invitation came to join the dynamic Advancement Team at Emma Willard School and help be a part of the Infinite Horizon campaign, I was absolutely thrilled. It feels like a beautiful “full circle” moment to support education in the very place I’ve always called home, Troy!

What is a typical day in the life at Emma like for you?

One of the things I love most about advancement is that no two days are ever the same. My world centers on being a “relationship builder,” connecting with our alumnae, families, and friends. I like to think of it through a hobby I loved when I was younger, crochet. It’s fascinating how you can start with a single, simple thread and, stitch by stitch, create something strong, beautiful, and interconnected. Relationship building is exactly like that. It starts with one conversation or a shared moment, and over time, those threads intertwine to create a lasting bond. I feel so lucky to help weave those connections that support education and our students every day.

What is one thing about working at Emma that would surprise people?

People might be surprised by just how deep the roots of this community go. There is such a joyful sense of pride and shared purpose here. The bonds between our alumnae and the school stay incredibly strong for decades, which really speaks to the foundation of friendship they build as students. It’s more than just a workplace; it’s a community that truly feels like a family, where everyone is always looking out for one another.

What were you like in high school?

I was definitely a social butterfly. I loved being involved in everything. You could usually find me in the middle of a math problem, playing my clarinet, or swimming at the pool. Even back then, I was the person who valued friendships above all else. Looking back, I realize I was already practicing being a relationship builder; it’s a thread that has stayed with me throughout my entire life and career.
