The Spring/Summer 2024 edition of Emma Willard School’s Signature magazine has landed! This latest issue explores sustainability initiatives on campus, from student work in clubs and capstone projects, our alums working to bring sustainability initiatives to the wider world, to how our historic campus is transforming to fit the needs of our community and climate.

“An extraordinary home deserves extraordinary care,” says Head of School Jenny Rao in her opening to this issue. “Over a century ago, leaders of this school wrestled with similar challenges of how best to structure the living and learning environment of a new campus. Today, we know their efforts and investments stood the test of time, for we are the beneficiaries of their work, living in the home they built. As we collectively work to preserve the historic character of this campus for the future, we have to ask ourselves this question: what does it mean for us to be good stewards of this place and the world around us?”

Some of our features for this issue highlight the ways the Emma community continues to evolve and take on the challenge: the front page of the February 9, 2024 issue of The Clock is featured, alongside a deeper-dive into how the grassroots climate activism movement finds its footing in strategic vision on campus, and a look at the inaugural Jestermester trips and courses helping to deepen our understanding of global climate issues. This issue also highlights new faculty housing initiatives, features conversations with faculty helping students make connections in and out of the classroom, and introduces our new Head of Institutional Equity and Inclusion Prince Botchway.

Highlights also include photos from the Class of 2024’s Commencement, special moments from the spring semester, and a look at this year’s devilish Revels performance.
