The Spring/Summer 2025 Edition of Signature Magazine

The Spring/Summer 2025 edition of Emma Willard School’s Signature magazine passes the torch of leadership to 18th Head of School Dr. Karen Lassey. We relive the grand opening of the Alice Dodge Wallace '38 Center for the Performing Arts and catch up with Soumya Boutin '23.

The mantel passes from 17th Head of School Jenny Rao to 18th Head of School Dr. Karen Lassey in this issue of Signature magazine. “I have been transformed,” Jenny says in her final Leading In. "Not because I have inherently changed, but because, like every other girl on this campus, I have been encouraged and supported to become who I was meant to be."

In taking on the new role of leadership, Dr. Lassey shares her own perspective. "As I begin to see the threads that connect the students and alumnae of Emma Willard School, it becomes clear that their experience here is a defining moment in their lives. So how can you not be inspired and have great hope?"

Our features for this issue highlight the passing of the flame of leadership, relive the grand opening of the Alice Dodge Wallace '38 Center for the Performing Arts, and follow the journey of Soumya Boutin '23. We hear from Mathematics Instructor Kate Robbins on reframing the math mindset and from Student Activities Coordinator Mariah Sanford-White '97 on crafting the Emma experience.

In this issue, we also celebrate the impact of Rev. Keenan Kelsey '62 on the Infinite Horizon campaign, celebrate the groundbreaking of the faculty housing project, and hear from the Schlansker/Kolosek family on their Emma legacy. Highlights also include photos from spring traditions and Commencement, a look at the work of the Student Diversity Leadership Group, and the announcement of Dr. Esther Dettmar as our new dean of academics.
