Lawrence Academy's Black Student Union, known as 'Umoja', hosted a ‘Nans Chicken and Board Games’ event on Sunday, February 23 as part of their Black History Month celebrations. Students of color from various schools joined the event, and four of our students attended the gathering and had a fantastic time.
The event was not only a fun and engaging social opportunity but also a great example of cross-school collaboration in fostering community and support. It highlights the power of coming together to celebrate diversity, share experiences, and build meaningful connections.
Students Ava S. ’28, Abena A. ’25, Yuri O. ’25, and Kiki R. ’25.
“Umoja” means unity in Swahili and represents the first principle of Kwanzaa—to strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race. The spirit of Umoja was evident throughout the event.
