With seniors absent due to rehearsals for the upcoming Revels performances, Emma Willard’s 9th–11th grade athletes stepped confidently into the spotlight at Saturday’s indoor track and field meet. What could have been a challenging day instead became a showcase of rising talent, personal bests, and historic performances that strengthened the team’s competitive momentum.

One of the day’s biggest highlights came from Liji H. ’27, who cleared 4’8” in the high jump with a season best that officially qualifies her for the NYS Section State Qualifier. Liji paired her high jump success with standout performances across the board, placing 4th in long jump (13’9.5”) and 5th in triple jump (29’9”), cementing herself as one of the team’s most versatile athletes.

Distance runner Sky P. ’29 delivered two of the strongest performances of the meet. Sky’s 3rd-place finish in the 1500m (5:45.90) and 2nd-place finish in the 3000m (13:17.20) were not only podium-level races, but they were fast enough to place her in Emma Willard’s all-time top-ten lists for both events. The double achievement highlights her rapid development and growing presence among the team's elite distance competitors.

In the middle-distance events, Vivian T. ’28 ran a strong 3:36.60 in the 1000m, placing 6th overall and moving from 8th to 7th place on Emma Willard’s all-time top-ten list. Her continued progression adds depth and consistency to the team’s middle-distance squad.

Sprinter–hurdler Hazel L. ’27 continued her promising start to the season with standout results. Lim finished 15th in the 45m dash (7.04h) and 19th in the 300m (52.54h), but her most notable performance came in the 50m hurdles, where her 9.84h not only placed her 6th overall, but it propelled her into the Emma Willard all-time top-ten list for the event.

In the field events, thrower Lucy N. ’28 achieved a milestone with a personal-best throw of 23’10”, earning her 9th place in the shot put. Her improvement reflects the team’s growing depth in the throws, signaling strong potential heading into the rest of the season.

Aaliyah J. ’28, Alex B. ’28, Leah K. ’27, and Joanna K. ’27 contributed solid times in the sprints and middle-distance events.

Fayna M. ’28, Shitong H. ’27, and Vanisa T. ’28 added points and experience across the jumps, with Fayna placing 6th in high jump (4’0”) and Vanisa securing 8th (3’6”).

Emma Willard’s relay squads turned in respectable finishes, including 5th in the 4x400m and 3rd in the 4x800m.

Despite the absence of their senior leaders, the younger athletes delivered one of the team’s strongest collective performances of the early season. With multiple athletes entering all-time school rankings, earning personal bests, and qualifying for postseason meets, the future looks bright for Emma Willard’s indoor track and field program.
