  • Director of Major and Planned Giving

    The advancement office at Emma Willard School is seeking a Director of Major and Planned Giving to join their dynamic team.  The primary purpose of the Director of Major and Planned Giving is to encourage and secure both immediate and longer-term financial support of the school through charitable giving. This work requires forging and maintaining productive individual relationships with major donors, who are chiefly alumnae and parents.  The director will manage a prospect pool of about 150 alumnae and parents located throughout the United States and internationally and will travel approximately 70% of time to build relationships and secure critical support for the priorities of Emma Willard School. The Director will oversee the Sage Society and encourage membership, market planned giving vehicles, and serve as the primary liaison to the school for donors who have made planned gifts.  S/he will partner with the Emma Fund and other front-line fundraisers in leadership gift strategies and support The Emma Fund’s Reunion Giving program by providing planned giving materials to classes celebrating 50th Reunions and beyond.  The director will oversee the Sage Society and encourage membership, market planned giving vehicles, and serve as the primary liaison to the school for donors who have made planned gifts.
     
    Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ prior relevant experience in soliciting major and planned gifts. S/he must have the ability to use a consultative, donor-centric approach in fulfilling institutional priorities.  Candidates should have strong interpersonal communication, writing, and presentation skills, with special emphasis on tactful interviewing and skillful listening.  S/he must be highly ethical, taking great care with donors’ sensitive and confidential information. Candidates must have the ability to travel on behalf of the school and be available for weekend and evening events throughout the year.  A growth mindset and an appreciation for independent school education for girls are preferred.

  • Science Instructor Leave Replacement

    Emma Willard seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated instructor to join the Science Department team for the fourth quarter of the 2018-19 school year (March – June, 2019). The position will report to the Science Department Chair. S/he will teach three sections of introductory chemistry. S/he will be responsible for collaborating regularly with science teachers of all levels. Emma Willard’s lab-based science curriculum strives to engage students consistently in hands-on scientific investigation and inquiry learning. The science instructor will contribute to the continuous effort to review, refresh and expand the laboratory program throughout the science curriculum. Dedication to the holistic wellness of students is essential, as is ability and comfort in frequent communication with students’ advisors and parents.
     
    The ideal candidate would hold a master’s degree in chemistry and three years of teaching experience. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in course and laboratory design, planning and implementation. The should have a strong desire to contribute to a collaborative faculty. The candidate should have patience, enthusiasm and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines. The candidate should be a strong advocate for all-girls’ education. Finally, this individual should approach their work with a sense of humor and joy.
