  • Assistant Director for Annual Giving

    The advancement office at Emma Willard School is seeking an Assistant Director for Annual Giving to join their team.  This position plays a role in securing the financial resources that allow the school to advance its exemplary educational program. Within the next two years, Emma Willard School will be launching a comprehensive campaign and the Emma Fund will play an integral role in the success of the campaign. The Assistant Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing strategies directly related to the success and growth of the Emma Fund, specifically the Reunion Giving program, Student Giving Programs, and supporting all other annual giving efforts and departmental objectives. 
     
    Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ prior relevant experience.  S/he must have the ability to travel on behalf of the school.  The candidate must have strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.  S/he should also have strong organizational skills, the ability to think strategically, and ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, including alumnae, parents, students, faculty, staff, and trustees. The candidate should have an appreciation for independent school education for girls and the ability to articulate Emma Willard’s distinctive mission.

  • Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling

    The assistant/associate director of college counseling (title commensurate with experience and education) supports the co-directors in the execution of a college counseling program designed to help each student gain admission to colleges and universities that fit her intellectual and personal abilities, interests, and aspirations. In educating, counseling, guiding, and supporting students and their parents in the college search and application processes, this person works knowledgeably, professionally, and ethically; aligns his/her work with the educational mission and values of the school; advocates tirelessly for the best interests of the students s/he serves; and  subscribes to the belief that “college is a match to be made, not a prize to be won.” (Frank Sachs) S/he is responsible for and carries additional duties as assigned. 
     
    Successful candidates will have at least 3-5 years’ experience in college admissions and/or college counseling; possess a bachelor’s degree (though a Master’s is preferred); be an excellent writer; love working with adolescent girls; demonstrate strong counseling, communication, and organizational skills; be a willing worker and a joyful collaborator; and embrace the immersive lifestyle of working in a boarding school.

  • Associate Director of Annual Giving

    The advancement office at Emma Willard School is seeking an Associate Director of Annual Giving to join their team.  This position is responsible for supporting, developing, and executing key aspects of Emma Willard’s Annual Giving programs with a focus on building the Parent Giving Program and building prospects within the 1814 Association, Emma’s leadership giving. This position is a strategic partner to the Director of Annual Giving, providing support for general solicitation strategies. He/she is a key contributor to building The Emma Fund pipeline and will manage a prospect pool of 100-150 parents. The Associate Director of Annual Giving is expected to promote the mission and programs of Emma Willard School to the highest-level Emma Fund donors through his/her regular travel for the school.
     
    Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and at least five years’ prior relevant experience.  S/he must have outstanding interpersonal and written and oral communication skills.  The candidate should also have strong organizational skills, the ability to think strategically, and ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, including alumnae, parents, students, faculty, staff, and trustees.  S/he must have the ability to travel on behalf of the school and be available for weekend and evening events throughout the year.

  • Director of Advancement Operations

    The Director of Advancement Operations provides strategic oversight and management of the functions of research, stewardship and advancement data management.  Emma Willard School is in the planning phase of a major comprehensive campaign, and the Director of Advancement Operations will be responsible for overseeing the development of campaign reports, processes and analysis that will provide consistent reporting data and metrics to the Head of Advancement, Head of School and the Board of Trustees. 
     
    Successful candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree and an appreciation for girls’ education.  S/he must be skilled in stewardship reporting and constituent research reporting and analysis as it relates to the planning and execution of a major fundraising effort. The candidate will have an ability to work independently and as a part of a team and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and oral form. S/he will have a minimum of 10 years in Advancement data management, stewardship programs and constituent research programs.  The candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of automated systems and extensive database management experience with preference to experience with Raiser’s Edge software

  • English Instructor

    The English Department seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated instructor to contribute to our effort to build a curriculum of diverse voices. The full-time English instructor reports to the English Department Chair. S/he will teach four sections of English I, II, and/or III, with the likelihood of designing and teaching senior electives in subsequent years. Candidates with expertise in the study and teaching of minority and/or world literatures are encouraged to apply. The instructor will collaborate regularly with other teachers of all levels to ensure an integrated and cohesive English curriculum. S/he will be responsible for co-curricular activities (e.g. coaching, after school physical education, advising a student-activity group, etc.) that fill the needs of the school and may intersect with the interest or expertise of instructor. The English faculty uses a process-based approach to writing, with a focus on developing students’ analytical skills.

    The ideal candidate would possess a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in English and hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in English. An individual with an advanced degree is preferred. Candidates with degrees in related fields will be considered and are encouraged to submit transcripts to show depth and breadth of English-related coursework.  The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to bringing out the absolute best in each student, open collaboration with colleagues, and meaningful professional development.  This person should have patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.  The candidate must be dedicated to the holistic wellness of students and have the ability and comfort in frequent communication with students’ advisors and parents.

  • Head of Strategic Communications

    We seek a Head of Strategic Communications who will be responsible for the vision and strategic direction of the School’s communications and marketing efforts. This is a hands-on and creative role responsible for crafting, planning, and executing messaging for Emma Willard School.
     
    This individual will play a key role in the strategic communications rollout of the new vision, strategic design, and fundraising campaign. This position reports to the Head of School and serves on the senior leadership team.  This individual works in concert with the Heads of Advancement and Enrollment Management to ensure coordinated, timely, strategic and compelling messaging.

  • Language Instructor

    Emma Willard School seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to work as a Spanish Instructor for the 2019-2020 school year. The ideal candidate would possess a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in Spanish and would hold a degree in the language. Preference will be given to candidates that also hold a degree in French. The instructor will work with the department chair, and the Language faculty to ensure an integrated and cohesive curriculum. The candidate will be encouraged to use creative and innovative teaching practices. This person will demonstrate a commitment to bringing out the absolute best in each student, open collaboration with colleagues, and meaningful professional development.  As a boarding school, all teachers also contribute to the overall life of the school. These responsibilities will include helping with dorm life and some combination of work with student sports and/or clubs as part of this person’s service to the school.

  • Math Fellow

    Emma Willard School, a private boarding/day school for girls, believes that learning is a lifelong prospect.  We rejoice in the input, experience, and potential of faculty of all experience levels. As such, we are proud to continue to offer our successful teaching and learning opportunity for recent college graduates. Our Teaching Fellows contribute to life at our school and earn a Master of Arts in Teaching degree at the Capital Region campus of Clarkson Graduate School. The fellows participate in professional development opportunities throughout their time at Emma Willard School. This two-year position involves teaching under the guidance of an experienced teaching mentor. The fellow will also coach at least one season of a sport and will have residential life responsibilities. Compensation includes full payment for graduate school tuition, room and board during the school year, and a stipend.
     
    For the 2019-2020 school year, we anticipate hiring a Math Fellow. The candidate will teach two sections of a Mathematics course and will be responsible for collaborating regularly with Mathematics teachers of all levels. Emma Willard’s Math curriculum strives to engage students consistently in developing a strong skills foundation and problem solving, using technology to enhance student learning. The Math Fellow will contribute to the continuous effort to review, refresh and expand the math curriculum. Dedication to the holistic wellness of students is essential, as is ability and comfort in frequent communication with students’ advisors and parents.

  • Resident Faculty

    Resident Faculty members at Emma foster a healthy and inclusive residential environment where each girl feels empowered to live comfortably and grow authentically with space to explore her potential alongside her peers. We are seeking a responsible, caring, energetic, and engaged professional who is interested in helping high school girls make connections, develop relationships, and navigate all aspects of community living.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree is preferred) and relevant experience in residential life and/or youth mentoring. This person will also have strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and a genuine interest in living and working with adolescent girls as they develop their sense of self in an academically rigorous educational living environment. This is a live-in position with a mixture of evening/weekend and daytime responsibilities. This job is performed from the employee’s residence (apartment within the dorm) so candidates must be prepared to share this space as well as the entrance and exit to the apartment/residence hall with the students.
